Kwathanze kicked off their Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) volleyball girls' title defense on the front foot after hammering St Aloys from Rwanda 3-0.

The Eastern Region champions hit Aloys 25-20, 25-13 and 25-20 to restore any doubts that they cannot compete after being ousted as the KSSSA national champions by Kesogon Secondary School from Rift Valley last week in Kakamega.

National bronze medalists Soweto, on the other hand, were hammered 3-1 by Seroma Christian High School from Uganda.

After taking the first set 25-16, Soweto could not hold on as they lost 25-10, 25-12 and 27-25.

The above four teams are in Group B alongside St Elizabeth Girls also from Uganda.

Meanwhile, it was a dark day for Kenya in handball except for St Joseph Girls Kitale and Mbooni Boys who bagged a win.

St Joseph Girls Kitale saw off Kiziguro from Rwanda 24-19 in Group B where St. Joseph 's Miranga from Kenya lost 39-16 to Gombe from Uganda.

In boy’s handball, Mbooni hit Bombo Army from Uganda 27-18 as Kakungulu from Uganda picked a 31-23 win over Kenya’s Hospital Hill. Manyatta also lost 22-33 ES Kigoma from Rwanda.
