As the National Sitting Volleyball event gets underway in Eldoret this week, eyes are on the selection of teams that will take part in the Africa Games and 2024's Paris Paralympic Games.

Officials said their prime aim is to select a formidable side that'll take part in Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, in September 2023 before shifting their focus to the Paris Paralympics in France next year.

According to Kenya Sitting Volleyball Federation Secretary General Justus Kutumo, the Eldoret Championships will be competitive as each player is keen to be selected in one of the two teams or both.

"It comes with a price as all players destined to take part in this event aspire for some of them to be selected into one of the teams heading for international championships and therefore they'll be very competitive selections," Kutumo told Standard Sports.

21 counties are expected to take part in the two day-competition.

Confirmations have, so far, been made by hosts Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Machakos, Kisumu, Machakos, Siaya, Nyeri, Vihiga, Bungoma, Narok, Mombasa, Makueni and Nairobi counties.

"We expect more confirmations by tomorrow to make it more interesting and competitive," said Kutumo.

Siaya County is the men's defending champion while Nairobi boasts the women's title.
