Kenya Ports Authority men’s volleyball team are expected to use this weekend’s national league matches at Nyayo Stadium as part of their preparations for next month’s Africa Club Championships in Morocco.

The team has been camping in Nairobi since last Tuesday under the tutelage of Sammy Mulinge and his assistant Samson Sunguti.

The dockers are enjoying their unbeaten run in the local league having beaten Equity Bank and Prisons Kakamega in their first leg matches and will be looking forward to extend their good run this weekend.

Today, KPA take on Kenya Army before winding up their Nairobi tour with a match against Prisons Nyanza tomorrow.

Mulinge said they are eying a semi-final slot at this year’s Club championships. “We made it to the quarter-finals in our debut last year in Tunisia and we want to improve on that performance to make it to the semi-finals and possibly to the final,” said Mulinge.

KPA were bundled out of last year’s competition at the quarter-finals after losing by three sets to continental giants Zamalek.

Reigning national men’s champions General Service Unit (GSU) and Prisons Kenya (last year’s runners-up) are the other two teams set to join KPA in Morocco. KPA finished third in the national playoffs thus qualifying for the 2022 continental event.

In other fixtures today, GSU take on Mombasa Prisons. The highlight of the weekend will be tomorrow’s match between GSU and KDF.
