National women’s volleyball league will be held this weekend in Mombasa.

The second leg matches of the league were to be played on January 21-23 at Nyayo Stadium, before being shelved.

According to the fixtures released by the Kenya Volleyball Federation Fixtures Secretary Ismail Chege, the men’s league will be at Nyayo Stadium on February 12 and 13.

Makande Indoor Gymnasium will host the weekend matches where Kenya Defence Force (KDF) will clash with Kenya Army on Saturday, while Prisons Nairobi will have a date against Vihiga County.

Reigning champions Prisons Kenya will play Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the last match of the day. DCI will return on Sunday to play Kenya Army before Vihiga County face Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

The last match of the day will see KDF clash with former champions Kenya Pipeline.

Meanwhile, national beach volleyball teams will start residential training next month as they prepare for the African qualifiers in Ghana set for March 24-29.

Beach Volleyball Commission of Kenya Secretary Sammy Mulinge said both men and women winners at the continental showcase will qualify for the Commonwealth Games scheduled for Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8.

Mulinge, who is also the coach of the national women’s beach volleyball team, said the third leg of the national beach circuit scheduled for Mombasa on February 12 and 13 has been postponed to February 26 and 27 to enable the men’s league to take place in Nairobi.
