Veterans Rotich, Maiyo win beach volleyball cup

Experienced pair of Edna Rotich and Eunice Maiyo won the women's crown during the national trails of the All Africa Games cum Continental Cup beach volleyball at Jacaranda Beach Hotel in South Coast.

The duo, who have been in beach volleyball for decades, collected maximum points to beat the other two teams during the two-day tournament.

The pair won all their matches. They beat the Diva side, comprising Glays Wangui and Naomi Too 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) and went ahead to stop the Dolphin side of Gaudencia Makhoha and Sally Wanjala 2-0 (21-14, 21-16).
In men's category, Kenya Airways pulled a major upset when they stunned Kenya Posta in the final.
Playing for Kenya Airways were the pair of Elijah Bosire and James Mwaniki and showed their class by winning 2-0 (21-12, 21-17).

On their way to the final, Kenya Airways beat General Service Unit (GSU). The Kenya Beach Volleyball Commission organsied event saw Kenya Airways outclass their experienced GSU opponents which included Bernard Musumba and Alex Kariuki 2-1 in the final.

The GSU duo were highly rated to win the match but the Kenya Airways team remained firm to win 3-0 sets (21-13, 16-21, 15-9).
In another tough semi-final duel, Posta beat Prisons Mombasa 2-1 (20-22, 21-13, 15-8). Men's teams which took part were Administration Police Training College, Kenya Defence Force, Kenya Airways and Kenya Posta in pool "A" while pool "B" had GSU, Administration Police, Kongowea and Prisons Mombasa.
