Kwanthanze set semis date with State House

Kenya Volleyball Federation Nairobi branch league champions Kwanthanze High School will face State House Girls in the first semi-finals in the school category of the Savlon Volleyball League.

Nembu Secondary also have a semi-final date gainst Parklands Secondary in the girls’ category.

Nembu qualified after winning their two matches over the weekend at Eastleigh Boys High School.

In their first match, Nembu defeated Dandora Secondary 3-1(22-25, 25-12,25-14, 25-11) before hitting State House Girls 3-0 sets ( 25-23, 25-18, 25-20) in their second match.

State House Girls, however, recovered to beat Dandora Secondary School 3-0 sets (25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.

In the boys’ category, Aquinas Secondary will face off Euticus in the finals, while Githiga Boys will battle it out against Hospital Hill in the third place play offs.

Top four

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Nairobi branch treasurer Moses Mbuthia said most teams will be in action this weekend with the Colleges taking to the pitch.

“Today, we had only secondary schools matches but next week colleges will play to get a place in the top four positions,” Mbuthia told FeverPitch.

In the self-supporting category, Makadara Constituency defeated Kasarani constituency in straight sets of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18 in another encounter played over the weekend.

The league director John Ajole said the league will climax with the finals on October 15th at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.

“We already have the top four teams in the secondary school category. We expect to get the colleges and self-supporting teams by next weekend. Two teams from colleges will play two teams from the self-supporting category in the semi-finals in both men’ and women’s categories.

The winning teams in self-supporting category will pocket Sh40,000, runners-up Sh25,000 and third-place finishers Sh15,000 in both men and women’s categories.

Schools champions will pocket Sh30,000, first runners-up Sh15,000 and second runners-up Sh10,000 for both boys and girls.

Savlon Nairobi branch league, which is in its third edition, is sponsored by Johnson and Johnson.

The league’s main objective is to identify and tap volleyball talent from non-league playing teams.
