KCB, Prisons win league ties

National Women’s Volleyball League leaders KCB continued with their good run of form after easily seeing off Nairobi Prisons 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) at the Nyayo Gymnasium on Friday.

The third victory in a row and fourth of the season saw the star-studded Japheth Munala’s side extend their stay at the top of the league (12 points) courtesy of a better set ratio over champions Kenya Prisons who overcame perennial rivals Kenya Pipeline 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 33-31, 25-21) at the same venue.

Featuring experienced players led by Malkia Strikers captain Mercy Mercy, Noel Murambi, Leonida Kasaya, Edith Wisa, Sharon Chepchumba and Violet Makuto, the bankers made a light work of the wardresses claiming the first set 25-15 followed by a 25-21 and 25-15 victories in the second and third sets respectively.

It is a performance that left KCB coach Japheth Munala a happy man.

“We had challenges in the second set, but we managed the situation and the third set we took it easily,” said Munala.

In earlier matches at the same venue, Directorate of Criminal Investigations rallied from a set down to beat KDF 3-1 (16-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-22).

KDF then recovered to see off Nairobi Water 3-0.
