Volleyball: Pipeline dominate individual league playoffs awards

Champions Kenya Pipeline completed a double after most of their players won individual awards on the final day of the national volleyball league at the Makande indoor gymnasium in Mombasa.

Pipeline retained the women’s title with an unbeaten record while General Service Unit (GSU) were crowned the men’s champions.

At the awards ceremony, Pipeline won the best setter, attacker and libero to crown their incredible outing that saw them land the coveted league trophy.

Janet Wanja was declared the best setter while Trizah Atuka emerged as the best attacker. The best libero award went to Agripina Kundu.

Second-placed Prisons also won several awards. Mercy Moim emerged as the best receiver while Dithy Wisah was named the best blocker.

Violet Makuto of Prisons won the best player award while Sarah Osanyo of Western Bombers won the best server award. Pipeline won the title as Prisons settled for the second position. Kenya Commercial Bank and Western Bombers finished third and fourth respectively.

In the men’s category, GSU’s Brian Melly and Cornelius Kiplagat won the best setter and most valuable player awards respectively, with Sam Juma of Kenya Ports Authority emerging as the best libero.

Moses Omondi of Co-operative Bank was the best attacker while Prisons won the best receiver, server and blocker awards through Kelvin Maiyo, Jairus Better and Rodgers Kipkirui. In the overall ranking, GSU were first and Kenya Prisons second while KPA were third. [Ernest Ndunda]
