It was a sad night for Diamond’s fans as he lost the BET awards to South African DJ and producer Black Coffee.

Through his Twitter account, the Deejay thanked Africa for his coveted win becoming the first South African to win the award.

‘’Finally South Africa has a BET Award.’’ He said in part in a video message he posted on his Facebook page.

He battled it out against his fellow countrymen, AKA and Cassper Nyovest, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, Ghana’s MzVee, Côte d’Ivoire’s Serge Beynaud and Nigerian favorites Wizkid and Yemi Alade to bag the ‘Best International Act: Africa’ award this Saturday at Los Angeles.

Putting their issues aside, AKA braved it out and congratulated the DJ amongst other celebrities who did so.

‘Look, Black Coffee and me don't really dig each other, BUT I RESPECT HIM & HIS ART. I acknowledge him for the pioneer he is.’ AKA tweeted.

Diamond who for a minute was a serious contender also took to his social media to congratulate the South African.

‘Congrats Black Coffee… Proud of you my bro.’ He posted.
