Political leaders and Kenyans in general continue to express their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former president Mwai Kibaki following the death of former first lady Lucy Kibaki.

CORD leader Raila Odinga mourns the death of Mama Lucy Kibaki, saying she was a great pillar in the grand coalition government.

In a press statement, Raila said that as a first lady, Mama Lucy made the working relationship in the grand coalition government easy and manageable.

“I remember her for her honesty, frankness and principled stand on matters of national and public interest. In her own way she gave the position of first lady a new and emphatic role.”

Senate minority leader Moses Wetang’ula said Mama Lucy was a key pillar in the coalition government by supporting President Kibaki and was a role model to many. Wetang’ula offered prayers to former president Mwai Kibaki and his family during this challenging time

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi eulogized Mama Lucy Kibaki as an exemplified person who stood for the place and voice of women in society.

“Some may have been uncomfortable with her ‘Iron Lady’ status, but she carried with her the motto that behind a successful man, there is always an unapologetic woman," said Mudavadi in a press statement.

“She stood by her husband in all adversity and never let go her maternal instincts towards protecting family. She left that imprint on many a Kenyan woman.”

Mudavadi urged all Kenyans to join the Kibaki family in mourning the passage of a matriarch.
