Why parents shouldn’t let work be an excuse to be away from children

I would like to urge parents to counsel and educate their children about good morals and virtues during this holiday season.

Parents are powerful role models for children, therefore they ought to make time and bond with their children to help them understand the children’s needs and closely monitor their moves and the company they keep to ensure they do not engage in vices such as prostitution.

I do not dispute the fact that most parents in major towns spend most of their time working or in business ventures as they strive to provide for their families.

This, however, should not be an excuse not to be part of their children’s’ lives to understand what goes on in their lives.

Today’s parents should also imitate the traditional culture where children would be sent to their grandparents, whose teachings and guidance would impact morals and knowledge.

It was believed this was key to ensuring a bright future for the children. For instance, girls were taught with their grandmothers how to collect firewood, fetch water, and cook among other daily chores while the boys would be showed how to look after cows.

This will ensure that our children grow up as responsible members of the society.
