Jubilee’s thanksgiving ceremony move propaganda and campaigning

Just days after the ICC dropped the cases against our Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua sang ‘celebrations have been conducted in the country. ICC’s move to drop the cases has made many Kenyans happy.

The Jubilee government is planning to hold a thanksgiving meeting in Afraha Stadium, Nakuru County this coming weekend. The main aim of thanksgiving is for the drop of Ruto’s and Sang’s cases. Why did Jubilee take such a step? A thanksgiving ceremony for Ocampo six while we still have IDPs in the country?

They may term it as a bold move as a party but to Kenyans, these are just mere campaigns and propaganda. They want Kenyans to believe that they are innocent and term them ‘holy’. The Jubilee government has failed in its duty. Occasionally, we hear of tours and our country has huge debts according to the controller of budgets. What is the future of Kenyans?

A lot of money has been used in malicious activities without them minding the post-election violence victims. The county they plan to hold a meeting in is where most of IDPs are. Residents are happy and eagerly waiting for tomorrow, however for hundreds of IDPs on the border of Rongai and Subukia sub-counties, they have no reason to smile at all. The reason being that they have been neglected despite Kenyans being given promises that their fellow Kenyans are safe and will be compensated.

Mumoi camp currently has 262 IDPs after 121 were compensated early this year. The others live in deplorable conditions and their situation is worsening. They fall sick now and then and most don’t have access to medical facilities. They live in torn tents in this cold and the children are the most vulnerable with the increasing population in the camps.

We hope the thanksgiving ceremony will bring compensation to our fellow Kenyans. They are suffering while the key perpetrators of the post-election violence live in big houses and drive posh cars. God cannot be happy with Kenya. Maybe we are being punished for our ignorance of the victims. They are like orphans and God is their father. God doesn’t let the tears of an orphan dry just like that.

Let’s wait and see if the meeting will reach the expectations of many. All this money for such meetings could have helped at least provide food for the victims. And such meetings in my opinion should not be held since they bring fresh memories of post-election violence.

Thanksgiving for what? For evading justice as the Ocampo six? No Kenyans should watch out this is propaganda. Let’s hope the meeting will be geared to uniting Kenyans, if so let them start with the IDPs in the camps then it shall be crowned a thanksgiving and it will make history.
