Traders unscrupulously lacing milk with dangerous chemicals

One of Kenya’s milk processor has appealed for severe action to be taken against deceitful traders who use chemicals to prolong milk life.

It is not so long when a story aired on how commercial broilers farmers in Nairobi add Anti- Retroviral drugs (ARVs) to broilers to fatten them and enhance their weight gain.

Recently, we also heard of traders in Naivasha who used to sell donkeys’ meat without peoples knowledge.

Time and again we have heard of farmers who sell maize grains mixed with the rotten ones in a manner that a buyer cannot easily notice.

These among many other dishonest practices are performed by traders in a quest to make easy money.

What they don’t know is that they are putting innocent people’s lives at risk. These practices are dangerous as they can cause diseases such as cancer, cholera and high blood pressure among many others.

The government should step in and punish these people. The Kenya Bureau of Standards should put measures that will help curb these malpractices.

If their unscrupulous actions are due to economic hardships, then the government should consider reducing its taxation rates.

On the contrary, since innocent citizens are the most affected they should be educated on healthy food consumption.
