Serena, Kempinski branches rated 5 star hotels in new classification

MOMBASA, KENYA: Three establishments located within the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve have been awarded five star status in the ongoing nationwide hotel, lodges and restaurants classification.
The classification results of South Rift and Maasai Mara have been published in the Kenya Gazette notice number 1832 of March 18 and show that Mara Serena Safari Lodge  has received five star rating.
The Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) Director General, Mr Kipkorir Lagat released results as the third phase of the exercise got underway in Coast last week.
Currently , hotel classification assessors are in Coast region carrying out the third phase of the exercise.
The Mara Serena Safari lodge is located within the Maasai Mara National Reserve and has 74 rooms and a total of 148 beds.
In the tented camps category, Olare Mara Kempinski which is within the Olare Motorogo Conservancy and Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp were also awarded five stars respectively.
Governors Illmoran Camp with 10 beds got four star rating.
Town hotels located within Nakuru town had Agricultural Resource Centre (ARC) Hotel located at the Egerton University attain two star rating, Hill court Resort & Spa , Chester Hotel , all being awarded two star while Hotel Cathey also in Nakuru town with 140 beds getting the three star listing.
Other listed and classified star rated hotels included Masai Mara Sopa Lodge ( four star), Olaro Lodge ( four star), Keekorok Lodge ( four star) Sarova Lion Game Lodge ( four star) , Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge ( four star) , Sentrim El menteita Lodge ( four star) ,Mara Simba Lodge ( three star) and Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge located in Trans Mara –Kiringani beibng awarded three star listing.
Mara Simba Lodge in the Masai Mara National Reserve ( three star), Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge located in Moi South Lake road ( three star) and Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort ( three star).
Lake Nakuru Flamingo Lodge with 91 beds was awarded a three star while Mpata Safari Club located at Kichwa Tembo-Mpata and Loldia House in Nakuru with 19 beds being listed as a two star hotel.
Ashnil Mara Camp with 118 beds , Mara Explorer and Sarova Mara Camp were awarded four star rating .
While Mara Intrepids, DBA Mara West Tented Camp and Little Governors Camp were also cerfified as four star establishments.
In Nyanza region, Kisumu Hotel with 120 beds got three star status while Dewchurch Drive Hotel located on the Mara Asembo road was the sole recipient of a one star rating.
