Louis van Gaal admits getting no call from pal Jose Mourinho DENYING he is his Manchester United successor“I wouldn’t expect him to. No. In football that doesn’t happen. Nor will I ring him” says Dutchman who knows the Special One well from their Barca days

Louis van Gaal doesn’t expect a call from his old friend Jose Mourinho to deny he’ll soon be the manager of Manchester United, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

Old Trafford officials still refuse to comment on claims that former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Mourinho is set to become their new manager for next season, Van Gaal has been forced to claim it’s not true.

“I wouldn’t expect Jose Mourinho to call me about that. No. In the football world that doesn’t happen. Nor will I ring him” said Van Gaal.

“If I did, then you think the stories are right and it is not like that. I am not thinking like that.”

Mourinho worked as Van Gaal's assistant at Barcelona in the late 1990s.

They won the La Liga title twice in their first two years together in Catalonia

Van Gaal admits that football is “not always an honest world” - and deals can be done behind backs.

He said: “In the past, I was chairman of the coaches federation in the Netherlands and we had a rule that you can never talk with a club without informing the present manager.

“But in football it’s not usual that you speak with other managers like that.

"It wasn’t a good rule, no!

"Sometimes it has been broken by people and by managers. It is always like that. It is not always an honest world.”
