Keter, Kazungu resign as House clears them for Cabinet

Incoming Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has formally resigned as the senator of Kericho County, following clearance by House vetting committee.
In a letter addressed to Speaker Ekwee Ethuro and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Isaac Hassan, the senator indicated that he was in compliance with the constitution, which requires that State officers resign before taking up public appointments.
Earlier Keter while on a point of order in the Senate delivered a touching message to his colleagues, thanking them for the three years they worked together.
"I thank my colleagues for the years we worked together. Since, today is my last day in the Senate, I thought I should take this opportunity to commend everyone for the time we shared, especially those we were with since 2002," he said.
Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura (Murang’a) led other senators in congratulating Keter as he prepares to take up a new challenge in the Executive.

Efforts by Keter and some of the senators to allow him deliver a personal statement did not pull through.
However, Senator Kembi explained that as much as he wanted to accord the senator an opportunity it was against the House Standing orders.
In the same vein, Malindi MP Dan Kazungu has also tendered his resignation to Speaker Justin Muturi after he was cleared by House for appointment as CS Mining.
