Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow as talks with Dortmund over the signing of Jadon Sancho have broken down.

Sancho is known to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's No.1 transfer target this summer following the 20-year-old's stunning performances in the Bundesliga this season.

It was believed that United had recently agreed personal terms with Sancho, who is keen on a move to Old Trafford this summer.

But now the Red Devils are on the verge of walking away from discussions with Dortmund chiefs as they believe they are holding them to ransom.

The German club are refusing to lower their £110m valuation of the player, with United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward not willing to go above £80m.

It was thought the two teams could meet somewhere in the middle, with negotiations over staggered payments also in the offing.

But after failing to come to an agreement the deal looks to be on the brink of collapse, although United may return next summer when the financial implications caused by the impact of the coronavirus crisis may be lessened.

They currently believe paying anything more than £100m is 'unrealistic' given the current climate, and feel Dortmund are being unreasonable with their demands.

If a move for Sancho is not possible, United may turn their attentions towards other options, including Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jack Grealish or Ajax star Donny van de Beek.

Grealish is another English talent who will not come cheap, however, with Villa allegedly not happy to accept anything less than £80m.

It is also not entirely clear where Grealish would fit into the side, with January signing Bruno Fernandes shining in the Villa captain's preferred role just behind the forwards
