Jadon Sancho return to Man City ruled out by Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has ruled out the possibility of Jadon Sancho rejoining Manchester City - with rivals United leading the race to sign him.

City need to strengthen this summer as they attempt to win back the Premier League title from newly crowned champions Liverpool next season.

With Leroy Sane on his way to Bayern Munich, Guardiola's side have a vacancy for a winger - but the City boss said he won't be trying to lure Sancho back to the Etihad.

Sancho left City for Borussia Dortmund in 2017, and Guardiola says that move showed the 20-year-old England winger had made his decision about the club.

“No, no, no,” Guardiola said, when asked about Sancho.

“He decided to leave, why should he decide to come back?

"We wanted him to stay like Eric Garcia and Phil [Foden] now. He decided like Leroy now, myself, I decided to move.

“It’s going to happen so when he decided to move to Dortmund, it’s not because he is going to decide to come back one year later.

"It would make no sense. He didn’t want to be here, so that is why he doesn’t want to come back here.”

United are believed to lead the race for Sancho, with Chelsea also keen, while Liverpool have been credited with an interest in the winger in the past.

The player himself is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, but with two years left on his contract and Dortmund wanting £110million for his signature, he may have to stay in Germany for another season.

Meanwhile, City boss Guardiola has suggested that a centre-back, a midfielder and a striker are the club's transfer priorities this summer.

“Some players have to be replaced,” he admitted.

“In some areas we will have to do this, not for the lack of quality, but for the absence of Vinny [Kompany] and David [Silva], while ­Fernandinho and Sergio [Aguero] have one year left on their contracts."
