Former QPR captain Marc Bircham has been arrested for aggravated battery.

The 42-year-old was apprehended by police in St Petersburg, Florida, in the early hours of Friday morning.

A report by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office listed Bircham's bail at $10,000 following the incident, of which details are yet to be confirmed.

It is not yet known whether Bircham was carrying a weapon at the time of the offence.

Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony in Florida, and if found guilty can result in a prison sentence of up to 15 years for first time offenders, as well as a fine of $10,000.

Bircham was appointed as technical director of the Bahamas Football Association in March, in a role which he oversees the men's, women's and youth teams, as well as a centre of excellence.

After starting his career with Millwall, Bircham spent five years at Loftus Road between 2002-2007 where he became a fan favourite.

He retired from the game in 2009 following a brief spell at Yeovil before moving into coaching, starting with a stint as QPR's caretaker manager.

Bircham also held a coaching role with Millwall, before moving to America to work with Chicago Fire and Arizona United, and later returning to QPR as first-team coach, where he stayed until 2018.

He left QPR after Ian Holloway was sacked as manager, but almost returned to the club last year when he was interviewed for the post which was later given to Mark Warburton.

Despite hailing from Wembley, Bircham was eligible to play for Canada at international level due to one of his grandfathers being born in Winnipeg.

He earned 17 caps for Canada during his playing career.
