Paul Pogba is reportedly ready to perform a U-turn and stay at Manchester United - because he wants to link up with Bruno Fernandes.

Pogba was widely expected to leave Old Trafford before next season, having been continually linked with a move since last summer.

Real Madrid and Pogba's former club Juventus have frequently been credited with an interest in the France midfielder, who admitted last summer it would be "a dream" to ply his trade at the Bernabeu under Zinedine Zidane.

Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has also helped fuel speculation, having criticised United over their handling of his client.

However, Pogba has been impressed by the impact Fernandes has had on United since his £47million arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January.

So much so, that the Frenchman is now ready to stay at United and is even interested in extending his current deal, according to the Daily Mail .

United have yet to lose with Fernandes in the team - although their 10-game unbeaten run stretches back to before his arrival.

He has provided much needed creativity and has been credited with helping to lift the standards of his teammates - and according to the Mail, Pogba believes he and Fernandes can spearhead a new era of success at Old Trafford.

It is thought much will depend on whether United qualify for next season's Champions League.

The Red Devils are currently fifth, which will earn them a place in Europe's top club competition if Manchester City's two-year European ban is upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

But with Solskjaer's side just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, on current form they could well break into the top four anyway.

Pogba's current deal expires at the end of next season, although it contains an option for a further season.

The 26-year-old has not been a consistent performer since rejoining United from Juventus for a then world-record £89million in 2016.

He has been sidelined by injury for most of this season, and it is believed United were resigned to selling him this summer rather than lose him cheaply next year.

There have also been suggestions that with Fernandes having had such an impact, United have less need of Pogba and can cash in on him.

But he has seemingly been inspired by the arrival of Fernandes, and fans will be eager to see whether the two can strike up an effective partnership in midfield.

Pogba has trained this week and could be available for either Thursday' Europa league clash against LASK in Austria, or Sunday's Premier League away to Tottenham.

So supporters won't have to wait too long to discover whether Fernandes and Pogba together can be the future of United's midfield.
