Defending champions Kabras Sugar II and KCB II stormed into the quarterfinals of the Mwamba Cup after winning their respective round of 16 matches over the weekend.

At the same time, two nationwide sides, Shamas Foundation and Strathmore Leos II, will also feature in the quarterfinals after knocking out Erick Shirley Shield (ESS) sides.

In Kakamega, Kabras Sugar II thrashed KRU Championship side Northern Suburbs 28-0 to set a date in the quarters with fellow ESS side Mwamba II, who knocked out Nairobi University League side Daystar Falcons 48-24.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, Kabras head coach Henley Du Plessis said they are taking the Mwamba Cup serious and focused towards winning every cup competition this season.

“Just like last season, our goal is to finish top of every competition we are taking part in. We are the defending champions and we are looking forward to retain it. The same will go to the Enterprise Cup as we also attempt to win the Kenya Cup again,” he said.

In Nairobi, KCB II saw off nationwide side Administrative Police 49-5 to advance into the quarters where they will face Menengai Oilers II. Oilers had knocked out Homeboyz II after a 27-17 win.

Nationwide sides Shamas Foundation and Strathmore II will face off in the quarters after both qualified after a 18-13 and 22-13 win against Kenya Harlequins II and Nondescripts II respectively.

The other match will feature Resolution Impala II taking on Nakuru II.
