England's squad trained on Tuesday (November 12) with both Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez taking part in the session despite reports of them clashing at the England team's training centre.

The FA issued a statement announcing Sterling would be banned from playing in Thursday's (November 14) game against Montenegro as a result of a "disturbance in a private team area at St. George's Park".

Gomez and Sterling had a confrontation on the field during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend before arriving for national team duty in Burton-Upon-Trent.

The Daily Mail reported that Sterling had attempted to grab Gomez by the neck following his arrival to the canteen. Gomez was seen with a large scratch beneath his right eye on the training pitch.

Sterling used his social media accounts to admit that his emotions had gotten the better of him and said he had patched things up with Gomez.

Sterling has become a key player for England in the past year. He was named Footballer of the Year in 2018 by the Football Writers' Association after scoring 25 goals in all competitions as City won a domestic treble of the Premier League title and the two Cup competitions.

For England, Sterling has scored 12 goals in 55 games but has been a regular under Southgate and scored twice in the recent 6-0 win away to Bulgaria.

England top Group A and will guarantee a place at the finals with a draw against Montenegro. They face another qualifier on Sunday away to Kosovo in which Sterling could feature.
