Swords pile more misery on Eagle Wings

Strathmore University Swords yesterday piled more misery on former basketball women Premier League champions Eagle Wings handing them a 51-36 beating at Nyayo Gymnasium.
The loss summed up Eagle Wings’ bad weekend out having lost to Storms on Saturday.
Edna Kola scored 14 points for Strathmore with Neema Achieng adding nine while Silale Shani led Eagle Wings with seven.
Swords subdued their opponents from the onset taking a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
Strathmore were too good for Eagle Wings, who seemed to lack a proper game plan to counter them, taking the second quarter 20-10 and a comfortable 29-16 lead at the breather.

On resumption, Swords completed the job 22-20 to chalk their 11th win and maintain the third place in the standings.
In another women’s encounter, Zetech University drubbed African Nazarene University (ANU) 79-52.
Maureen Bosibori and Teresa Oloo sunk 15 and 14 points for Zetech respectively while Lynn Saliamo scored 11 for ANU.
After taking a narrow 29-23 half-time lead, Zetech won the match in the third quarter, scoring a towering 33 against ANU’s 13 before sealing the victory 17-16 in the final period.
In the men’s Premier League, debutants Emyba rallied from five points down at half-time to beat World Hope 72-59.
Eugine Adera scored a game-high 26 for Emyba while Evans Orange top-scored for World hope with 10.
World Hope enjoyed a 30-25 advantage but failed to hang on to their lead allowing Emyba to rule the second half, taking the third and fourth quarters 29-17 and 18-12 to bag the win and increase their chances of sealing a play-offs slot.
