Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Luka Modric - they're the three greatest players in the world - if the shortlist for The Best FIFA Men's Player award is to be believed.

The decision to name the trio, and snub the likes of Lionel Messi - remember him? - has raised a few eyebrows in the footballing world.

Filipe Luis, for instance, told Globoesporte: "The award is for the best player in the world. For me, today, it's Messi. Just like in previous years.

"When he's not there, it loses credibility. It doesn't matter who wins the World Cup or the Champions League. He's the best."

He also called it "bizarre" that no one from France's World Cup winning team - Kylian Mbappe, Raphael Varane etc. - made the shortlist.

But the decision has been made, so one of the three will have their hands on the glittery prize at the end of the month.

Toni Kroos was asked on Twitter to reveal who he thinks is the best out of the three, and who he believes should win the award.

Kroos is team-mates with Modric, and of course was team-mates with Ronaldo for a number of years up until this season.

He has no relationship with Salah, but it seems he wanted to remain diplomatic and avoid giving a definitive answer to the question, nonetheless.

Instead, he simply cracked a joke, replying: "I'm out?" as if he thought he was one of the three players named in the shortlist. Brilliant.
