“Carlton Cole is currently working mentoring young people and footballers about the pitfalls of life and money,” said one of the player’s spokespersons as seen on the Sun.

He added that Cole would ‘go into more detail’ in the comings weeks about what led to his current situation – people around him who negatively influenced his playing career.

“I hope my story will help young footballers to take responsibility for who they listen to and take advice from,” Cole told the Sun.

Cole regretted not realizing how fast his career was worsening.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t realise what was going on until my career was in the latter years and too late for me to turn things around," said Cole.

Cole won seven caps for England, spent nine seasons at West Ham and five at Chelsea.
