Alexis Sanchez blasted after Man United were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea

Sanchez blasted by Paul Scholes after another poor showing in the FA Cup final.

Manchester United icon Paul Scholes slammed the club's forward Alexis Sanchez following his no-show in the Red Devils' FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

In the absence of Romelu Lukaku - who was reduced to a late appearance from the bench due to injury - Sanchez struggled in attack alongside Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, as Eden Hazard's first half penalty proved the difference between the sides.

He did put the ball in the net shortly after the hour mark , but was offside from Phil Jones' header goalwards.

His latest failure in front of goal meant that he ends his first half season with United having scored just three goals in 18 appearances following the high-profile swap deal which took Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Arsenal in January.

And speaking on BT Sport, Scholes didn't hold back.

"His performances, well they have to improve. They can't get any worse to be honest with you.

"I think the next few games of next season are vital to him, he needs to get fans believing again and believing they are going to get close to City. They need a big player.

"Paul Pogba does not win you games on his own. (Eden) Hazard does. Alexis Sanchez doesn't, he's shown that since January, they thought he could, but what we've seen..."

Scholes adds that far from being a matchwinner, Sanchez should be usurped in Jose Mourinho's squad by a couple of new additions who'll bring a sprinkling of stardust to the side.

"They need two magical players," he continued.

"I think they've got really good players, but they haven't got a Hazard, Ronaldo, Messi, and I know many teams haven't, but the difference between the two was the quality in Hazard, we saw that in big games.

"United don't have that."

Former United right-back Paul Parker has also laid into Sanchez's contributions for the club.

Speaking on talkSPORT , he said: “Things haven’t materialised I think in the way I think maybe everyone expected it to.

“But then he hasn’t played or isn’t playing in the same way or style that he played at Arsenal.

“Again, for what he cost and everything that goes with it, we know at the moment he hasn’t reached the levels anywhere near to what he was at Arsenal.”
