Kenyan clubs fail to impress on continental stage

Ulinzi Stars were the first to falter in the Confederation Cup (CAF) , after losing 1-0 to a Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi. In the first leg match played in Egypt on Friday. The match was played in Cairo Military Academy due to security reasons that deemed Libya unsafe.
A second-half strike by Ahmed Abar made all the difference, although the goal was protested by Ulinzi players, arguing it was scored from an offside position, they are to blame for failing to score a number of times against the Libyan side they were a better side all through.
Benjamin Nyangweso boys must beat the Libyan giants by two goals or more in the second leg in order to advance to the next round. The winner of the tie will face Egypt’s Smouha in the first round.
Kenya Champions Tusker FC failed to shine in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary match. They were held to a one-all draw by Mauritius side AS Port-Louis 2000 at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.
Brewers defender, Shafik Batambuze broke the deadlock in the 29th minute from a well-taken corner. Eight minutes after the break, Ivorian Ephraim Guikan gave the visitors a vital away goal, cancelling the lead.
Tusker, under their new coach Nsibe, have an uphill task for the return leg as they must now beat Port-Louis away or settle for a superior draw (2 goals) so as to progress. The winner in the preliminary round will face Sudanese Champions Al Hilal
