There were no major upsets on day one of the Coast Region secondary schools Term Two games that kicked off on Thursday at Hola Boys High School, in Tana River County.

Boys' football champions Serani were, however, scared in their first match against hosts Hola after they were held to a barren draw.

Under the guidance of Swaleh 'Sunda' Abdalla, Serani reorganised themselves and went on to win their second match against With Mjini of Lamu 4-0 and cruise to the quarters finals.

The win was a morale booster for the Mombasa-based team as they remain focused on qualifying for the national games in Kisii.

Mombasa's Tononoka powered their way to the quarter finals on an unbeaten record after they won their two matches.

In the opening match, Tononoka, under coach Juma Kalato, did not show any mercy to Huruma of Hola before beating them 2-0 and went ahead to defeat Lamu's Mpeketoni 3-0.

In other boys' football matches, Shimba Hills of Kwale defeated Kilifi's Takaungu 4-0, while Mwavumbo, also from Kwale, defeated another Kilifi side Jaribuni 3-2 in a tight encounter.

Jaribuni recovered to stun Taita Taveta 's representatives Dr Aggrey 1-0, while Takaungu settled for a 1-1 draw with Timbila of Taita Taveta.

In girls' football, champions Kombani from Kwale, who are coached by 2018 Soya school coach of the year Mukasa Amboko, humiliated Uziwa of Tana River County 5-0.

Kwale 's Kaya Tiwi started the competition strongly after they beat Witu Mjini of Lamu 2-0, while last year's finalists Minhaj of Tana River hit Kilifi's Msumarini 1-0.

Chang'ombe of Kilifi defeated Ndura of Kwale 2-1 in another match.
