All set for Kisumu Open Classical Chess tournament

Over 250 chess masters will be in action at the 2023 Kisumu Open Classical Chess tournament set to kick off at the Scottish Tartan Hotel, Kisumu on Saturday and Sunday.

The Kisumu Chess Club in collaboration with Chess Kenya and the Scottish Tartan Hotel has jointly organised a two-day FIDE-rated Classical chess tournament to be, 11th-12th Nov 2023.

Kisumu Chess Club Secretary General Dismas Oketch confirmed that over 20 clubs and teams have confirmed participation including Victoria Chess Club, Etham School Eldoret, Kisumu |Senior Academy and KCB Chess Club.

Other clubs include Kireka Chess Club from Uganda, NACHA, Crestals Chess Club and Grandmasters Chess Club, Captain Nemo Chess Club Kakamega, Kisumu Chess Club, Clobbers Chess Club, Bungoma Chess Club, Kabarak University, Nakuru Chess Club and Mavens Chess.

University of Eldoret, Eldoret National Polytechnic, Beacon Nights, Tongaren Chess Monks, Knights Chess Academy, Mengo Chess Club from Uganda and Kitale School.

Notable participants include CM Ben Magana from KCB Chess Club, Jospeh Methu of KCB Chess Club Njoroge, Martin KCB Chess Club and Wagodo Abdul Shakur from Uganda's Kireka Chess Club and WCM Joyce Nyaruai.

Scottish Tartan Hotel, Chess Kenya, Victoria Chess Club, Kisumu County Gov Department of Sports and Talent Development, Acacia Premier Hotel, Safarilink, CM. Ben Nguku, Eng. Adai Rodgers, Mr. Githinji Hinga, Dr. Samwel Ng'eno, CM Ben Magana, Waiguru WaMuriuki are some of the partners.
