Makueni crowned chess champions at CASA games

Makueni amassed a total of 34 points to win the chess title on the penultimate day of the fourth edition of the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games at ASK Nakuru Showground on Thursday.
They were followed by Murang'a who posted 32 points ahead of third-placed Nyeri (24 points).
Hosts Nakuru lifted the ajua title with a total of 36 points.
They were followed by Nyandarua (33), West Pokot (27), Marsabit (24) and Kiambu (21) as Machakos and Kisii tied on 15 while Kericho and Laikipia also tied on 12 points.
In the choirs, Turkana won the overall title of the set-piece title ahead of Kisumu and Vihiga.
In the sacred own choice category, Kisumu won the title ahead of Homa bay and Trans Nzoia.
In the folk song category, Narok won the title followed by Machakos, Bungoma, West Pokot, Kakamega, Kiambu, Taita Taveta and Machakos.
In men's football, Siaya defeated Kwale 5-0 to romp into the quarter-finals.
Also to qualify for the quarters were Narok, Uasin Gishu, Nairobi, Homabay, Trans Nzoia, Kiambu and Kakamega who won their matches in the round of 32 in the four-day-tournament.
The last eight matches were due to be played last evening
Nairobi matched into the quarterfinals after shooting down Kisumu by a solitary goal in a closely contested match as Kericho overcame Narok 4-0.
In men's volleyball, Uasin Gishu stormed into the semi-finals after dispatching Migori by two straight sets of 25-15 and 25-14 as Elgeyo Marakwet secured a 2-1 (25-27, 25-16, 26-20) win over Turkana with Siaya dismissing Kiambu with two straight sets of 25-21 and 25-14.
In women's volleyball, West Pokot picked a 2-0 (25-11, 25-13) victory over Kerichi in the quarters.
There were a number of complaints after the completion of quarter-final matches as a number of teams filed petitions to challenge the qualification of their opponents.
"We managed to listen to all complaints of all the teams and the jury reached its decision to allow successful teams to proceed with their semi-final matches," chief volleyball coordinator Judith Baraza told Standard Sports.
Final matches in ball games are set to be played this afternoon at ASK Nakuru Showground and at Kabarak University.
Athletics finals will also be held on Friday morning.
