KCB whitewash JKUAT in the Kenya Chess Premier League clash

KCB Chess cLUB portrayed its tactical prowess by ousting JKUAT Chess team 5-0 to maintain its position at the top of the table in the ongoing 2023 Kenya Chess Premier League.

KCB's Joseph Methu, Candidate Master Ben Nguku, former national champion Martin Njoroge, Jackson Kamau, and Woman Candidate Master Joyce Nyaruai outplayed Javan Ouma, Victor Githui, Benjamin Muthama, Raphael Muthenya, and Veronica Matei of JKUAT Chess Club respectively in the Sunday afternoon fixture played at KCB Ruaraka Sports Club.

Speaking after the game, KCB chess team player and Woman Candidate Master Joyce Nyaruai said, "It was an intense match that pushed our limits, and I am incredibly proud of my team's performance. This victory is a testament to our hard work, resilience, and dedication to the game. We respect JKUAT Chess Team for their sportsmanship and skill, and we look forward to more wins in the remainder of the season.

The fixture comes at a time when the KCB Chess team is preparing to jet out of the country for the World Rapid Teams Championship to be played in Dusseldorf, Germany from August 23 - 30.

The team manager Isaac Babu, team captain Ben Magana, Martin Njoroge, Joseph Methu, Robert Mcligeyo, and Joyce Nyaruai will be the bearers of KCB's flag in the competition.

"We are privileged to be the only team from East and Central Africa who will be taking part in the competition. We are aware that it is not like any other competition but as a team, we are prepared and focused to grab the top honours in the tournament. As we go out, we intend to make the country and our continent proud in this competition." KCB Captain Ben Magana said.

The competition organized by the International Chess Federation brings together top teams from different countries in the country for the annual event to determine the world champion in chess played under rapid time controls.
