Nairobi Seahorses leave rivals gasping for breath

Nairobi 's Seahorses aquatic centre was the team to beat during the national Kiambu County junior swimming gala, at the Crowford International School.
They won both boys and girls titles. Seahorses swimmers produced tremendous performances to dominate most of the races.
In the girls' events, Seahorses Aquatics centre triumphed with 321 points, while Water Warriors swimmers finished second with 119 points.
Woodcreek School claimed the third position with 86 points.
The boys' category was highly dominated by Seahorse, where they scooped the top prize with 382 points.
Montessori Learning Centre and Woodcreek International School tied in the second position with 59 points each. The hosts Crawford International school finished fourth with 54 points.
In individual performances, Melissa Alala from Seahorses won gold medal in girls' 8/9yrs 100m Individual Medley (IM) with a time of 1.41.40.
In girls' 7 yrs 100m IM, Seahorse won the top three positions through Kaari Ngugi, who posted a time of 2.16.52, while both Naya Olengo and Abigail Wanjugu touched the finish tape with a time of 2.22.89.
Seahorse also shone in boys' 7yrs 100m IM after Dayo Mbugua, Kago Inzoberi and Marx Mugo clocked 1.54.48, 1.55.11 and 2.13.95 respectively.
In the boys' 6 yrs 100m IM, Sanay Shah from Montessori won in a time of 2.21.05 as Roselyn Anyango of Water Warriors clocked 3.13.59 to win the girls' 6 yrs 100m IM event.
Zalera Landsdown, also from Water Warriors won the girls' 5 yrs 100m IM race with a time of 3.52.98.
Kenya Swimming Federation Kiambu County public relations officer Nesmas Mbati said the gala marked the end of 2022/23 calendar.
"Our new calendar of events will start in September to August 2024," said Mbati.
Mbati said parents from Seahorses swimming club, which has branches in Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos, pledged to donate swimming wear, swimming aids and avail their children for a joint swimming sessions with children from Mugumo-ini Primary School, who train at Mangu High School as they do not have their own swimming pool. This is the first public school to participate at the gala.
The Managing Director of Crawford International School Jenny Coortez said her school will partner with Kiambu county swimming branch to nurture swimming talents in the county and especially in public schools.
