As they dreamt of starting the season on a high, Redigo Deter were forced to succumb 4.5-5 against fancied R/UP-Turbo in their opening tournament of the season, the Northern Kenya Polo Championships in Timau yesterday.

R/UP-Turbo disappointed Redigo Deter with a win of half a fraction of a goal in the pulsating encounter, thanks to the good weather that never allowed the heavens to open.

"It was a very fast game and the horses were struggling and so was I. And it was the best way to get back into the game as a season opener," said fast rising rider Bobby Kamani who scored a goal for Redigo Deter in their 4.5-5 loss against R/Up Turbo.

His (Kamani) teammates led by international Archie Voorspuy, Cheza Millar and Jamie Excel each scored a goal in the match.

"As the only upcoming player in that team, I was lucky to have experienced teammates who guided and coached me as we played. We all learnt valuable lessons," added Kamani.

Upcoming handicap -1.5 Kelvin Jumba was evidently instrumental with accurate crispy passes to top female lady player in Africa Izzy Voorspuy who was the man of the match for the R/UP-Turbo side for her to score a double, same to Izzy Stichbury while Geoff Morley returned one goal for the winners.

"I created some goal scoring opportunities for the team and I look forward to building up on the same momentum for tomorrow's (today) match against Luna Sensation," Jumba told Standard Sports.

On her part, Izzy (Voorspuy) said "The game was hard fought, nice and open on an open ground (NKPC). We were lucky to win and look forward to the rest of the weekend."
