With the new season expected to hit-off in two weeks' time, players have taken time with their horses for them to gain and achieve full fitness.

And with handicap -0.5 Eva Kamau's horses having achieved that, she is now ready to battle with the best players in the chase for top honours this season.

Kamau, who admires Africa's top rider Izzy Voorspuy said reaching her (Voorspuy) levels is her ultimate goal.

"As I take one step at a time, it's total hard work to get to the top and therefore my work has just started. This means I have to improve my handicap as well," she told Standard Sports.

"I have played her (Voorspuy) a number of times and I can confirm she's good. We learn more things as we play more matches."

Kamau, who trains under the tutelage of Sammy Kiarie at Nairobi Polo Club, said last season (2022) was her best season, which saw her record some of the best achievements so far since she started playing polo in 2016.

"It was a season where my riding was aggressive and my gameplay tactical. I enjoyed that moment when playing either the most experienced or upcoming players," she said.

Kamau confirmed she will be traveling to Northern Kenya Polo Club in Timau for the opening tournament on May 26-28.

"It's only recommendable for one to play more experienced players because they teach us more tactics in the course of the game,"she said.
