BM Security are the 2023 Davis Cup champions after beating Radio Africa 4.5-4 in the final at Nairobi Club yesterday.

But the losing finalists had something to smile about after their ponny nicknamed Hanny was voted the best playing ponny of the tournament.

The ponny rode by Hiromi Nzomo broke the camel's back for lasting a full chukka in the finals yesterday.

"It' tough but we managed to give our best. We played well but it wasn't our day," Hiromi told Standard Sports.

Hanny is one of the Nzomo's pennies that was adored by Brazilians and United States of America when they played Kenyan teams in high-goal matches at the same venue last year.

During the match, Harry Stichbuty scored a double for BM Security with Moses Wainaga the third one after Jadini Nzomo had scored an own goal.

Jadini later scored a hat trick for Radio Africa and Raphael Nzomo one, a move that pitted Jadini and Phylippa Gulden of BM Security in the fight for the most valuable player award.

Gulden later picked the coveted prize.

Tanqueray defeated Tusker Malt 5-4 to lift the plate fnals' title.

Jules Camm scored a hat trick for Tusker Malt before Izzy Stichbury wrapped it up with a goal for the losers.

On their part, Jules Camm scored a hat trick while Omwakwe Arunga and Magda Jurkowiecka managed one each for Tanqueray. [Ben Ahenda]
