A last minute goal in the fourth chukka by upcoming handicap 0 Fred Kambo was all Amiran needed to widen the tally and defeat Wine Box 6-3.5 as the Christmas Ndume Championships started at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil yesterday.

By the end of third chukka, Amiran led 5-3.5 through a hattrick from Megan Griffiths and a double by Ben Stonewigg before Kambo came into the picture with a goal that dashed the hopes of Wine Box of at least sharing the spoils in the four chukka match.

Kambo said good defending coupled with fast good runs at the front made them score quick goals and conceding less goals.

“We just need to improve on our tackles to minimise creating unnecessary fouls that could cost us goals,” Kambo told Standard Sports.

Wine Box team of Gordy Millar (2), Nick Millar (1), Silke Hampson (-0.5) and Lochie Stichbury(-0.5) in the low handicap 2 tournament scored their goals through Gordy who had a double and Stichbury.

Sanlam also dismissed Dion Wines 3-1 and Safaricom 5-1.5 to go top of the table.
