Safaricom and Amiran won their respective matches to make a formidable start in the Moi Cup Polo Championships, the penultimate tournament of Kenya Polo Association championships at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil yesterday.

Safaricom beat Wine Box 5-3.5 as Amiran saw off Sanlam 5-4.5 in thrilling but fast matches last evening.

For the third time this season, the Nzomos propelled their teams to victories scoring crucial goals that ensured their teams had a head start in the second matches scheduled for this afternoon at the same venue.

Against Wine Box, Raphael Nzomo and Harry Stichbury each scored a double as the Fred Kambo finished the scoring spree with a golden goal in the final chukka ahead of their second match against Amiran this afternoon.

After starting the match at the advantage of half fraction of a goal, Natasha Tisminiieszky managed a double for Wine Box in the first chukka with Ben Stonewigg wrapping it up in the final chukka.

On their part, Jadini Nzomo scored a hatrick with his sister Hiromi (Nzomo) and Jules Camm netting the others for Amiran to silence Sanlam 5-4.5.

"It was a tough match but we came out victorious as a result of teamwork. It was a tough match and good to play against my younger brother Amani," Jadini told Standard Sports after the match.

Wine Box take on Sanlam in their second match this afternoon.

Although they lost to Amiran, Amani Nzomo was the man of the match for his team scoring a double with Megan Griffiths and Phyllipa Gulden scoring the rest in the final two chukkas.
