Polo: Kenya players set for Mugs of Mugs championships

After the national women team’s triumph against Zambia in Lusaka International Championships in Lusaka, it is the men’s time to test their skills in the Mugs of Mugs Championships at Manyatta Polo Club, Gilgil this afternoon.

The high 17-Goal-match will pit Kenya against Zambia next week at the same venue but from today they will be competing in the three day tournament.

Today, the matches will be played in a round robin format before it getting into the knockout stages tomorrow.

Seven teams namely Tack Rack, Cruise Control, Samurai, Jacaranda, Mascor, Nightmares and Wild Olive are set to fight for the top honours this afternoon.

Mascor will clash with Wild Olive in the first match of the day (1pm) to be umpired by Kimoi Moi and international Tarquin Gross.

Mascor, the Team of international Joss Croig(2,5), Geoff Morley(1.5), Miranda Simpson(0.5) and Lochie Murray(-0.5) will start the match at the disadvantage of half a fraction of a goal against Wild Olive whose handicap is 2.5 against Mascor’s handicap 3.

Wild Olive team members are Henry Limb (2.5), Phylippa Gulden(0.5), Izzy Stichbury(0.0) and Lochie Stichbury(-0.5).

International umpire Raphael Nzomo and Jamie Murray will oversee the second match between Cruise Control against Nightmares.

Connaught Cup Most Valuable Player Kimoi Moi(2.5) in the company of his dad, Gideon Moi, Louis Roumeguere(0.5) and Simon Muchene(-1.0) will represent the Cruise Control side.
