Handicap 2 Kimoi Moi was voted the best player in the 14-Goal Connaught Cup Championships as the curtains came down of the three-day competition at Nairobi Polo Club on Sunday.
Kimoi was instrumental in their 6-5 win over fancied Samurai team of ever-confident Raphael Nzomo, Archie Voorspuy, Craig Millar and Izzy Parsons.
Nzomo's Samurai team gave their opponents a run for their money despite losing the match on a 17-13 aggregate after three rounds of matches.
The efforts of Kimoi led to the six goals scored by Casimir Gross (four) and a double by Tiva Gross that gave Ultimate the coveted trophy as the focus shifts to Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil, which will host Mugs of Mugs championships next week.
During the final match, Craig (Millar) scored a hattrick for Samurai as Nzomo and Voorspuy each scored a goal to finish as runners up with their heads high in the three round robin matches.
The 17-year-old white pony of Craig Millar known by The name Farina was voted as the best horse.
In the first match, Ultimate won 7-4, then drew 4-4 and won 6-5 yesterday to end their win on a 17-13 total goals aggregate.
"It was total teamwork that won the day for us as all of us contributed to the victory," he told The Standard Sports.
MICT team of Phillip Arunga, Will Millar, Megan Griffiths and Phyllipa Gulden lifted the OMT Bowl, which was the Division Two Championships of the main cup.
On winning the title, MICT walloped Tusker Malt 3-1, thanks to the goals by Arunga, Millar and Griffiths while Ben Stonewigg replied with a consolation goal for the losers.
In the Wooden Spoon, a subsidiary of the OMT Bowl championships, Gipsy walloped 24;7 to win that title.
In the Red Bull Trophy, the Division Three Championships of the main cup, Scissors team of Ed Burbridge, Fred Kambo, Jamie Excel and Simon Muchene lifted the title after beating Paper 11.5-7 to finish tops with a maximum of 12 points after winning all their four matches.
Earlier, Scissors had beaten Rock 13-7 in their penultimate match ahead of the finals.
It was sad for the Rock team of Aisha Gross, Rob Koitaba, Silke Hampson and Miranda Romjin when they lost all their three matches yesterday falling 7-6.5 against Paper in their final match.
