One day after the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco, RB Leipzig has appointed former Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach boss Marco Rose as its new coach, the struggling Bundesliga outfit announced on Thursday.

The 45-year-old Leipzig native has penned a contract until June 2024 together with his assistants Alexander Zickler and Frank Geideck.

"We are fortunate that Marco Rose was available and agreed at such short notice. We have the perfect fit that is congruent with our objectives. We are convinced that Marco will bring continuity and stability to the club. Marco is excellent at that," said Leipzig sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff.

The Red Bulls slumped to 11th in the Bundesliga following a weak start to the new season, before suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat in their UEFA Champions League opener against Shakhtar Donetsk.

"It didn't take long for me to accept Leipzig's offer. I'm happy that things can start straight away, even if it's going to be stressful. I've never taken over a club mid-season. We are now a team and want to be successful together. The team is good, it's even excellent," said Rose.

Rose will have little time to acclimatise to his new role as Leipzig clash with Bundesliga rival Dortmund on Saturday before traveling to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
