A man who was arrested in connection with the shooting of US rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas in 1996 has been charged with his murder.

According to the BBC, Las Vegas Police charged Duane "Keffe D" Davis with Tupac's murder.

Davis was indicted by a grand jury in Nevada on one count of murder with a deadly weapon.

Shakur who was 25 years old at the time was shot four times while waiting for a red light in a car with fellow rapper Suge Knight. He died a week later from the wounds.

The BBC reported that the prosecutor in the case Mar DiaGiacomo described Davis as the ["on-ground, on-site commander" who "ordered the death" of Shakur].

Davis recently confessed in an interview and in his book 'Compton Street Legend' to having knowledge of Shakur's murder.

He reportedly said that he was in a car with his cousin and another person with a handgun that was used to fire the killer bullets.

Davis reportedly wrote in his book how he helped procure a gun to kill Shakur as revenge after the rapper reportedly beat up his nephew.

He gave a detailed account of how he coordinated a number of gangsters to shoot the rapper.

After the shooting, he reportedly did away with the gun and had the car repainted before it was returned to a car rental firm to throw investigators off his track.
