Moses Wakhisi of Standard Group is the new Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Secretary General.

Wakhisi got 69 votes against Isaac Swila of Royal Media who had 30 votes in the elections held at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort and Convention Centre in Mombasa on Saturday evening.

Incumbent Mike Okinyi, also of Royal Media, opted out of the election in April.

"I'm grateful for being elected by the majority, I promise to be a servant leader for this association," Wakhisi said in his acceptance speech.

Despite the defeat, Swila pledged to support the scribe’s body saying he is ready to work with his competitor and the ex-co at large.

"Thanks to those who voted for me. When I decided to run for this post, I called Wakhisi and pledged to engage him in a very mature campaign,” said Swila

"I'm happy that I did not hit below the belt in our quest to look for the votes.”

The election for the Secretary-General post came three months after the Association held its polls which was won by People Daily Sports Editor James Waindi as the President.

Eric Njiru of Homeboyz Radio won the Vice Presidency as Mukami Wambora, a freelancer, bagged the Treasurer post.

The Organising Secretary post went to Samson Ateka of the Star Newspaper.

Agnes Makhandia, Geoffrey Mwamburi, Ahmed Abulla, and Charity Wanja were elected Executive Committee members.

The Association took over 80 scribes for a three day Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (Adak) workshop in Mombasa which ended on Saturday.

Among the topics tackled in the high profile seminar, graced by Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum, included an overview of current trends in doping, enhanced anti-doping programs, sample collections and performance-enhancing substances.

Others are athletes’ whereabouts, supplements, the role of media in the fight against doping in sports, and the National Olympics Committee of Kenya's preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
