Hockey: Butali Warriors open a six-point gap with nine matches to go

Defending champions Butali Warriors have opened a six-point gap between them and second-placed Kenya Police in the 2022 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League standings after registering their ninth win of the season.

Butali saw off Wazalendo 4-1 to open the gap against the servicemen who were not in action over the weekend.

Festus Onyango scored two goals as George Mutira and captain Festus Onyango added two more goals in the win. Cliff Omari scored Wazalendo's consolation goal.

Following the win, Butali who are the only unbeaten side in the men's top league have 29 points against their name.

They are closely followed by Police on 23 points but have played one more game than the servicemen.

Western Jaguars were the biggest gainers of the weekend after their 1-0 over Strathmore Gladiators moved them third on the log with 16 points.

Conrad Wafula's 44th-minute goal was enough to help the Kakamega-based side register their fifth win of the season.

Sailors moved fifth after seeing Greensharks 1-0. Amos Esese scored the solitary goal in the win for Sailors who have 15 points.

Mombasa Sports Club are bottom of the log with four points after 11 matches followed by Parkroad and Greensharks.
