Over 40 clubs are expected to take part in the Prinsloo Sevens Championships set for Nakuru Athletic Club, this weekend.

The fifth leg of the National Sevens Circuit has attracted one of the largest pool of teams and organisers said matches must start early for the program to be completed on time.

The senior circuit has attracted teams that take part in the Kenya Cup League and the second tier Kenya Championships.

The Nakuru leg follows the completion of Dala Sevens in Kisumu that was won by Homeboyz who defeated Menengai Oilers 19-14 in the final at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, last weekend.

Tournament director Eddy Moseti said the facilities are in good shape ahead of the tournament.

“We are ready for the tournament. Everything is in place and the facilities are also in good shape ahead of the three-day competition,” Moseti said.

The tournament will begin with the Age Grading Championships on Friday ahead of the senior event and Division Two Championships on Saturday.

This is the first tournament to be hosted at the venue in the post Covid-19 season.

The Great Rift 10-Aside Championships was not held this year over the Easter Holidays, with the organisers pushing it to next year.

Hosts Nakuru RFC have stepped up their training sessions in readiness for the tournament under the tutelage of Simon Wariuki.
