Preparations for the 10th edition of Federation of African Universities games (FASU) games slated for June 6-10 have been finalised with the launch of a modern athletic track.

The five-day event is expected to bring together at least 2,000 participants from 45 countries at Kenyatta University which will be the host.

While commissioning the multi-million synthetic track at KU, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said the government through her ministry will partner with institutions of higher learning to exploit sporting talents.

She added that the current six-lane track at KU will be expanded to the standard eight lanes as Kenya hopes to win the bid to host the 2025 World championships.

KU's Vice Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina said the event offers a golden chance to learners in local and regional universities to showcase their sporting prowess.

The VC also said the university has enough facilities to host the competitors, managers and other officials as students will have gone back home after their exams.

Retired and upcoming athletes led former marathoner Simon Biwot, Douglas Wakihuri hailed the university for the initiative saying that the track will help young athletes to train and become great champions in future.
