Golfers are in for a great treat this weekend as several golf clubs across the country play host to tournaments after their cancellation following measures put in place to help curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

At Limuru Country Club, Crown Paints Kenya will be sponsoring Irrigation Project Launch tournament to celebrate the commissioning of it’s new and fully automated irrigation system.

With an 800,000 Litres reserve galvanised steel storage tank and a 300,000 Litre masonry tank with 13 kilometres of piping system. The installed pipe network has a capacity to storean additional 60,000 litres of water. That is energy efficient with an automated detection system, capable of predicting when to increase or decrease the amount of water downstream.

A huge field of 180 golfers has been drawn up for the daylong duel to be played under stableford scoring sformat, off full handicap. As the lush green course is playing well, good scores are expected but only if one avoids the unforgiving roughs by staying on the fairway.

Projected weather forecast for the day is a sunny day, thus golfers will for sure enjoy a great golf outing on the course which will double up as a tree planting exercise on the scenic hole-14, adjacent to the water dam.

Leading the local prize onslaught is top amateur Paul Muchangi, who was the first local Kenyan to qualify for the now Cancelled 2020 Kenya Open as well as Limuru’s finest aka the Warriors. There will be a lot at stake as Crown Paints have put together an array of prizes to be won.

Being the second sponsored golfing event since the gradual resumption of sports activities in the country. Crown Paints Kenya have promised a great day for all who will grace the meet.

The tournament coincides with the release of guidelines by the Kenya Golf Union on the resumption of caddying services which had been stopped at the peak on Covid-19 outbreak earlier in the year.

Cautious golfers will still be allowed to self-caddy but with an option of engaging spotters to hasten play at the par-72 course.

Club captain Fred Ikana has reminded players to continue observing all hygiene and social distancing guidelines necessary for the prevention of the spread of Covid-19

Limuru’s climate and soil conditions have always been admirable and many have wondered why it was necessary to have an irrigation system. Two severe droughts between 2007 and 2018 gave enough reason to implement a working fall-back irrigation system in case the rains fail again, in future.

Away in Machakos, the par-72 course will play host to Massmart Supermarket Golf tournament. First off the deck on the morning draw will be Dr S.Musyoka, B.Mumo, J.Kioko and A.Kioko at 7:04am with post entries set for 12:16pm.
