Alexis Sanchez will reportedly return to Man Utd next month as the club refuse to extend his loan at Inter Milan.

United are paying a portion of the Chilean's mammoth £400,000-per-week wages while he is stationed in Italy.

Inter were hopeful of keeping hold of Sanchez until the end of the season, but United are not willing to extend the deal past its June 30 expiry.

Both clubs are still involved in the Europa League and Sky Italia report United do not want Inter to be strengthened by having Sanchez in their ranks.

Instead the 31-year-old will return to Carrington when his loan reaches its conclusion, playing no further part in Inter's season.

That will come as a blow to Inter boss Antonio Conte, who was planning on using Sanchez in their remaining games.

Inter are still in the race for the Serie A title, but Conte is also set to lose Victor Moses, who will return to Chelsea next week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested previously that Sanchez could have a future at Old Trafford, though he is not registered in their competitive squads, therefore would be ineligible to play this season.

Such a stance from United would likely scupper any chances of Inter loaning Sanchez for next season.

The Italian club were in discussions over potentially extending his stay to the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Whether Sanchez still has a role to play at United remains to be seen, but if not, Solskjaer could struggle to offload the forward permanently in the current economic climate.

Meanwhile the club have moved to tie down Scott McTominay to a new contract.
