Tottenham's Son Heung-min admits his military training was a "good experience" [COURTESY]

Tottenham's Son Heung-min admits his military training was a "good experience" and was even joking by the end of it.

Son had to complete three weeks of mandatory military service in his native South Korea.

The lockdown allowed him time to do so and the 27-year-old made quite the impression, winning an award for the best performance and receiving praise for his shooting skills.

"It was a good experience," Son told the club's Twitter.

"I couldn't say everything that I've done but I enjoyed it. The three weeks were tough.

"On the first days no one knew each other so it was a bit weird, but soon we got to know each other. You have to spend every day together, there were ten people in one room so we got very close.

"We were working together, helping each other. In the first days the other guys couldn't even speak to me but by the end we were joking and enjoying together."

South Korean men must complete military service by the age of 28.

Son had managed to earn exemption from the mandatory 21-month military service due to his role in South Korea's 2018 Asian Games win.

He has since returned to Tottenham and is preparing for the remaining nine games of the season.

Son was forced to have surgery in February after fracturing an arm during Tottenham's 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

It looked as if he would miss the season but the coronavirus enforced break has proved beneficial for the north London side in terms of getting their injured players back healthy.

Jose Mourinho will be able to call upon Son and Harry Kane as he chases an unlikely Champions League spot.
