Dagoretti High, Nairobi School and Hillcrest launch their title defence today as Nairobi Region Secondary Schools Term One games get underway at venues across the city.

Hosts Dagoretti popularly known as Ditchez, begin their rugby 15s campaign today in Group A against Ruthimitu Mixed before taking on Sunshine tomorrow.

Dagoretti will be looking to begin their season on a high as they seek to successfully defend their title. Team captain Sospeter Yoga said their main objective is to win the national title.

“Every win is very important to us because we have bigger goals this year. Our aim is to go all the way and win the national title because it is the only way we will show improvement having finished second last year,” Yoga said.

He added that even though six players namely Ben Salem, Timothy Lugalia, Clinton Oyolo, Kelvin Shihemi, Vincent Angote and Aaron Mung’oni completed form four, the team remains solid and eager to shine.

“They were instrumental for us last year but their departure has not affected us because being in form four we knew they were leaving and so our coaches groomed their replacements who are also good and eager to excel.”

Former national and East Africa champions Upper Hill who are also hosting Group B matches will clash with Langata while Highway will take on Uhuru today.

Tomorrow, Upper Hill who lost their city title to Dagoretti last year will clash with Uhuru while Highway will entertain Langata.

At Lenana School, the homeboys will tackle Light Academy today before facing off with Strathmore School tomorrow.

Strathmore will play St Mary’s today with the later battling Light Academy tomorrow in Group D.

In Group F, hosts Ofafa Jericho will renew rivalry with Aquinas in today’s match before ending the weekend with an encounter against Makongeni.

Muhuri Muchiri will play Makongeni and Aquinas today and tomorrow respectively.
