Brendan Rodgers explains why he snubbed Arsenal

Brendan Rodgers has penned a massive £40million deal to stay at Leicester after snubbing Arsenal.

And the Foxes boss now aims to build a legacy and make his high-flying side one of the club's most entertaining teams ever.

Former Liverpool and Celtic coach Rodgers,46, has agreed terms which will earn him £8m a year until 2025.

He only joined in February on £5m a year from Celtic but has quickly transformed City, who are second after seven straight wins.

It prompted interest from the Gunners when they axed Unai Emery.

But Rodgers said: “In 30 years’ time, this is a team that could be remembered for the level of football and how competitive they are.

“That would be the ultimate for me.

“I’m committing my work and life to here to give it everything.

“You want your legacy to be what the supporters see on the field, but also the feeling that they have watching the team.

“I’ve met supporters who have been watching the club for 60-odd years.

“They’re so inspiring talking about this being the best football they’ve seen of a Leicester City team and they’ve not missed a game for years.

“That always drives you on and gives you extra motivation that they’re enjoying what they’re seeing.

“It’s my responsibility to try to ensure they feel that happiness.

“I’ve got a real motivation.”

Rodgers' backroom staff of assistant manager Chris Davies, first-team coach Kolo Toure and fitness coach Glen Driscoll are also getting new bumper deals.

He now hopes City's in-demand starlets like James Maddison, a Manchester United target, will follow suit.

Rodgers added: “Hopefully they’ll see how we’ve worked together here and the ambition I have for the club, will make them think in terms of where we want to go.

“This is a club with big ambition, that’s why I’ve committed for such a long period, and once they’re here, they will hopefully feel that ambition and see the progress.”
